Taking local sewing or stitching classes is always a great way to establish a

you identify all the parts and uses of your sewing machine? Do you know how to
use a seam guide, or how to sew a knit versus a woven fabric? By learning the
many sewing terms by seeking out the needed knowledge in a specialty book or
magazine, you will undoubtedly become a better sewer who is well-versed in the
craft lingo.

May 20, 2017
9 AM – 3 PM
St Matthews Episcopal Church
1101 Forest Avenue, Richmond, VA

Special Events has been working on setting up a yard sale for our members to sell their sewing or
craft related items they no longer need. Great time to stock up on supplies or help a beginner get started!

If you have sewing or craft items you would like to donate to our Chapter, we will have a table at
the Yard Sale to both inform the public about ASG while also selling donated items to raise
funds for our Chapter. All funds earned from donated items will go to support our Chapter’s
activities such as Education.

We encourage everyone to come to the Yard Sale and bring a friend or family
member that enjoys creative supplies!
Sewing is often
a passion that many people want to share with their own children. There isn’t a
specific age when a child can start using a sewing machine, they and you will
know when the right time is. But finding the right sewing machine for them to
use can make a huge difference to their sewing experience. Once they have their
machine, your kids can start off sewing some relatively simple items. But if
the sewing bug bites, then they could move on very quickly to all sorts of
projects, from making their own clothes and bags, to quilts and soft
furnishings.

There are many
sewing machines on the market that are ideal for children, with some featuring

I took a small break, but I hope to keep posting now that the holidays are over. We seem to have adopted another cat. I'll have pictures soon. My new years resolution: sew more! And not adopt any more animals (although I have always wanted chickens...). I will leave you with Emma under the tree.

When I was in North Carolina in June, there was this great mall art exhibit of recycled materials. This quilt was in the exhibit and I'm sorry I don't have the artist's name. I think it is a really interesting use of reused fabric, especially jeans details.

It made me want to start saving old jeans to cut up, but then I realized I save too much stuff and really shouldn't add any more clutter. Maybe I could save one or two pairs of jeans...

This is the Classic Blouse #600. I absolutely fell in love with this peacock print. It has a great drape in a herringbone weave. Darts give the blouse fit and shape while still being loose enough to be comfortable. I left the front pockets off.

As you may know, I love using stuff I just happened to have already. So here is a blouse from fabric that I just happened to have (no idea where it came from!). It is a synthetic crepe in a diagonal dot pattern. It looked a little plain when I finished so I added 3 bias flounces to the front neck. I didn't hem them, so I'm hoping my hunch is correct that raveling shouldn't be a problem.

I am so happy to have finally finished my Hawaiian dress from fabric sent to me from my sister in Hawaii! I started it back in June. I used New Look 6053. I chose to underline the whole dress since the back ground is white and I want to wear it in the summer without having to wear a slip.
