Super Easy Errand Tote #211

These bags are very sturdy and work great as a shopping, errand, library, camping, gift bag!
Women’s shelters and foster care often use them too.

Supplies: ¾ yard of 45”wide decorator fabric, thread
Cut:  2  fabric pieces this size. Place top edge along selvedge.
Cut 2 strips for handles 3”x27”.
Sew:
1-    Right sides together, sew the handles into 2 long tubes using ¼” seam allowance.  Turn right side out and press.
2-    Right sides together, sew 2 larger pieces with ½” seam allowance.  Sew along sides and bottom, but not the notched out corners.  Serge or zigzag finish the raw seam edges.
3-    Open the corners and bring the seams in to meet.  Stitch across and finish seam as before.

4-    Fold seam allowance to one side and topstitch seam allowance to bag from the outside, starting at the top and stitching down one side, across the bottom, up the other side.  Then stitch each corner the same.  This reinforces the seams.

5-    Hem the top by turning down the top edge 1 ½” and stitching.
6-    Attach handles by turning down 1” and stitching.  Position handles 6 ¼” in from side seams.
Enjoy your new bag!
