Feline Friday- Our Newest Buddy

Here is Anchor (named by my son).  I tried not to adopt this one, but he won and we are happy to have him.

Its a New Year!

Happy New Year!  I took a small break, but I hope to keep posting now that the holidays are over.  We seem to have adopted another cat.  I'll have pictures soon.  My new years resolution:  sew more!  And not adopt any more animals (although I have always wanted chickens...).  I will leave you with Emma under the tree.

Feline Friday- Cats eat Pumpkins?!

I've had cats that ate bread, noodles, corn on the cob even soy bean pods and now-
pumpkin guts and seeds!

She couldn't get enough.

Feline Friday- Artsy Photo of Alice

I call this "Portrait of a Cat" by my daughter.
I think it really captures her emotion and her mustache.
(Alice's; my daughter doesn't have a mustache.)

Feline Friday 13th

Happy Friday 13th!  I'm not superstitious but here is a black cat for good measure!

She keeps coming inside, uninvited.  I would let her stay in, but our other two cats hiss at her.

She will just have to be content being a yard cat.

Owl Plates from All Fired Up

My daughter and I had a girl's day out recently and we went to All Fired Up.  We both did owl plates.  It was a lot of fun and her plate (top) was a Facebook Favorite!
I haven't decided where to display them yet.  We could eat off them if we wanted.

Keeping Busy Making Cards

Greeting cards by my 13 year old daughter.  She just used construction paper, cut into shapes and glued down.  I love the colors, shapes and negative spaces.

These are also by my daughter.  She used colored pencils.  I really enjoy the variety in these cuties!

The Kitchen is Finished!

I did most of the painting, my husband took down all the cabinets and painted all the hardware!
I am so happy with it.

We kept the same floor because it is only a few years old.
The walls and cabinets haven't been painted since 1992, so it was long overdue!

I love chickens, so I chose these as inspiration.

The orange board was an art assignment by my daughter.  The blank one will be covered with art by my son, soon I hope.

Chicken plates!  They were a Christmas gift and I finally got to hang them up!

The old farm table (1940's?).  I am going to paint the chairs next.

Artist Trading Cards- Steam Punk

I was going for Steam punk with goggles but I think I got a little Planet of the Apes in there too!  I used collage, real typewriter pages from 25 years ago, gears, guitar parts scrounged from the workshop, vintage lace and magazine photos.  Then I painted it all with coffee to give it a more aged look.  After the swap, I was left with the 3 big gorilla faces.  Maybe a little too freaky?  It was fun making them.

Ceramic Easter Bunny and Buttons

We love All Fired Up!  Here is my latest:
I painted him like a patchwork, with stitching around the edges!

Surrounded by roses my kids made in school.
And 3 buttons, because I can never resist buttons.

Shhh- Don't Tell the Cat: Bird Appliqued Pillows

I recently finished these pillows- 16"x16".  They have an overlapped back, with a removable pillow form.  I received a lovely songbird datebook as a gift and it has been inspiring me to do something with birds.  I traced the outline of a Northern Mockingbird (the datebook has photos of birds each week).  Then used the tracing as a pattern for the raw edge applique.
I free motion stitched around the birds.

Feline Friday- "Kitten" update

I say "kitten" because they are now almost a year old.  So big and fluffy!
These stray alley kittens have turned into very friendly and lovable cats.

Cinder and Peach, ready to be petted.

Always love it when I can catch a cat tongue!

Feline Friday- I mean Saturday!

I could give you a whole list of excuses on why I am a day late, but suffice it to say, its summer, and I was out of town.
Since this is Saturday (not Friday), here is a picture of raccoons (not cats), that my daughter Grace and I sewed from an American Girl Kit.  We were having a mother/daughter afternoon.  The kit was fun to make, easy and contained everything we needed.

I sewed the mama raccoon and she sewed the daughter one.

A Magic Trick- Bunny turns into a Frog!

I love interesting and challenging projects.  I had a customer that requested this bunny hat be turned into a frog hat, similar to the small frog plushie.  It was tricky.  I removed the ears and trimmed, stuffed and reattached them as eyes.  I then covered the whole bunny face with the new frog's mouth.

After a wave of my magic sewing needle- tada!
I am quite happy with the results.

Feline Friday

A cat of shirt buttons.  Originally I was going to machine sew them on, but my son got sick and wanted me to watch TV with him, so I hand sewed them on.  This will probably become a pocket for one of my many tote bags.  I use totes for everything- library books, sewing guild meeting,
Sunday School lesson plan, Boy Scouts, when I go to teach sewing, play tennis or volunteer at school.  I hang them all on hooks in the closet and just grab the correct one.  Alice really wanted to be in the picture.  See her tail, above left.

Her she is again, trying to be photographed.

Alice wins.

Alice, caught snooping in the rat cage.

Feline Friday- Cat Love

Alice and her bean bag friend.

Emma licking Alice's head- how sweet!

Alice relaxing with Leopard.

Look very closely, Emma is sticking out her tongue!

Here she is doing it again!
