Here is Alice, lounging on a quilt I made from scraps I had in my stash. She is NOT allowed to lounge on anything for customers! This quilt is 45"x45". I started with the middle piece. I used the colors of the middle square to inspire the rest of it. Here are the instructions . Alice is about 4 years old. I rescued her and her sister from our back alley when they were about 6 weeks old. They were the only kittens that didn't run from me!

Rat Round Up
Couldn't let the rats feel left out! Above is Stripe, sampling the cat food. They do live in a cage, so they are not out roaming around without supervision.
Here is Cloud, playing Follow the Leader with Alice. Happy Sewing Everybody!

Moby and the Cats
Its been awhile since I posted any cute pet pictures so...
Here is Alice with Moby the fish. She thinks we got him just for her.
"Smells like dinner."
Emma came to investigate too. These were taken a month ago and Moby is still healthy. We keep him on a shelf where the cats can't get him. They still love watching him though.

Photo Shoot with Cats
Generally I keep my items for sale separate from my cats because some folks don't want their items to include cat fur! When I am doing a photo shoot, though, it can be really tough.
Alice was posing so nicely with my PJ Pants .
Emma just can't help but investigate all these new Little Kittie Paperweights .
"They don't smell like cats."
"But they look like cats so I guess I'll stand here too."
"Even with 9 lives, a cat can still use some good Luck!

Another Good Sewing Resource and Cat Pictures!
A catalogue from Connecting Threads arrived the other day. It is beautiful and inspiring. I haven't ordered from them before, but I did check out their website. http://connectingthreads.com/ is well worth visiting. They have over 81 tutorials, 124 free patterns! In Nov. they are supposed to be featuring beginner machine quilting and finishing will be in Dec.

Emma, caught on my watch and hat! The whole rest of the bed was empty!
All right, back to sewing.

Cute Pet Pictures
Okay, so any time I post pet pictures, it pretty much means I haven't had any time to sew! School is starting soon so I will be able to sew more. I do actually have a project in the works.

Pets on Quilts Show
This is my entry for http://sewcalgal.blogspot.com 's Pets on Quilts Show!
Stripe, my son's rat likes hanging out on this scrappy yo-yo quilt. I sewed it years ago. Partly by hand, partly by machine- I couldn't seem to decide!
Here are Cloud and Stripe sharing secrets.
Stripe, up close on quilt I made inspired by a sunset. Those are applique clouds.
Not to be outdone by rats- Alice is posing on her favorite quilt. It actually has calico cat fabric in it too! I sewed this one using the instruction booklet in my shop http://catsongstitchery.etsy.com

Welcome New Rats!
I love cats, but I also love rats! My son wanted his own for his birthday, so here are Stripe and Cloud riding on Alice's back. There are about 2 months old. They are boys, like my son, even though girl rats keep a tidier cage. We are thrilled to have rats again.

Donated More Cat Beds
Just got back from donating 4 more cat and dog beds to the SPCA. They are really easy to make. Here are instructions: http://catsongstitchery.blogspot.com/2009/05/how-to-make-pet-pillow.html The kids love seeing the animals enjoying the beds. It uses scraps and old rags that would be thrown away otherwise.

Donated More Cat Beds
During the last week of Dec., I delivered 4 more pet beds to our local SPCA. I make these using scraps left over from other projects. The top two are worn out and stained t-shirts (turned inside out to hide the stains) stuffed with scraps. I keep a pillow by my sewing machine and just toss any scraps straight in. When it is full, I sew it shut. Thursday, June 18, 2009
Trend Setter-A great way to help animals
I love animals and taking care of them, but I can only have so many pets. I realized a while back that I really enjoy watching the wildlife in my yard from my big sewing room windows. I decided to have my backyard certified as a wildlife habitat. It was fun and really easy. Visit www.nwf.org/backyard for more info. After we got our backyard certified, then my Mom and her husband got theirs certified and my niece earned her certification (she is 9). Just think if people all over did this. Our neighborhoods would be so much more animal and plant friendly!

The Cat Sisters- Cute Pet Pictures

Here they are, the girls responsible for the name Cat Song Stitchery. I was up late one night trying to come up with a name for my new shop (http://catsongstitchery.etsy.com ) when one of them came sauntering through the room, singing! The rest is history. They sing often.

How To: Make a Pet Pillow

A great way to use scraps, discarded and unwearable clothing is to make pet pillows! I keep a container on my sewing table and I fill it with threads and bits of fabric. When it's full, I start stuffing a pillow. My pillows vary, around 14"x14" to 20"x20". The yellow one above is an old shirt (you can see the placket). I'm still stuffing that one. When I have several finished, I deliver
them to my local SPCA. It is fun to see animals enjoying them. Knowing that I'm keeping fabric out of the landfill is nice too!
